Through a continuing general engineering consulting contract with Clay County, WGI was selected to provide survey, design, plans preparation, utility, contamination, environmental permitting, and gopher tortoise permitting and relocation in support of phase I of the Outdoor Adventure Park, a multifaceted outdoor recreational activity complex and park.
Phase I consisted of a 158-acre multi-use and multi-purpose shooting range and law enforcement training facility designed to meet Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) criteria, boasting a 200-yard gun range with 45 shooting bays, including 24 pistol bays, 15 rifle bays, two shotgun bays, two tactical bays, and two-speed steel lanes for pistol and pistol carbine rifles. Multiple shooting range BMPs and safety features were built into the facility design including a ballistic sand downrange earthen berm, a range and control tower, and security CCTV.
WGI provided civil, structural, and electrical engineering including designing the supporting parking, buildings, and lighting a wind load analysis, and solar-ready design. Through smart design, WGI avoided and minimized impacts for a streamlined and expedited environmental permit approach.
