The City of North Miami Beach partnered with WGI to develop a city-wide strategic Safety Action Plan. This comprehensive safety plan is aimed at reducing and eliminating serious-injury and fatal crashes affecting all roadway users, including pedestrians and cyclists. This plan is structured to gather existing data and evaluate it to determine appropriate improvements to enhance safety while aligning these with infrastructure improvements and funding opportunities strategically. This study was funded by a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) federal grant with matching funds from the City.
In addition to collecting and assessing crash data, the WGI team developed a robust public engagement plan. Public engagement outreach and meetings are a key component of a Safety Action Plan to inform the residents of the plan and also initiate conversations and gather input from the residents, emergency response agencies, regional and state transit agencies, and the school district transportation board. WGI developed an interactive activity to gather public comment during outreach events.
The completed Safety Action Plan identified countermeasures addressing crash trends and included maps of the recommended and prioritized improvements along with a tabular list. Safe streets and roads promote vibrant, thriving communities and WGI appreciates the opportunity to be of service to the City of North Miami Beach.
