This project consists of improving the intersection of Community Drive, a 5-lane undivided urban facility, and Military Trail, a 6-lane divided urban roadway, by adding dual left-turn lanes at both the east and west approaches. Roadway improvements are being driven by the immediate need to address substandard intersection capacity and issues associated with access management. The overall design effort will include horizontal and vertical alignments, roadway typical sections, closed drainage conveyance systems, use of existing storm water management facilities, permitting through multiple agencies, utility coordination, signing and pavement markings, signal modifications, intersection traffic volume analysis, topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, and optional services. A study phase was completed prior to the commencement of the final design and involved an evaluation of three separate intersection improvement alternatives. All three alternatives were evaluated using an R/W Evaluation Team comprised of experts in the fields of business damages, appraisals, traffic and site analyses, planning, and market research. Initial engineering design was completed on each of the alternatives evaluated.
