As part of the City of West Palm Beach’s Downtown’s revitalization and the Lake Worth Lagoon cleanup, the City replaced the existing 50+ year old seawall with a new seawall utilizing precast concrete sheet panels and piles with a cast-in-place concrete cap. The new seawall is approximately 2,900 feet long extending from the Royal Palm Bridge on the south to the Palm Harbour Marina on the north. This section of Flagler Drive is commonly referred to as the Sunfest Route. This portion of Flagler Drive is closed for a five-day music and arts festival the first week of May every year.
In order to integrate the seawall into the event activities, the pile cap was raised and widened to provide seating along the water to view the festival activities. The newly constructed seawall will provide the City with another 50 years of intracoastal shoreline protection and has provided the base for additional docks and piers which are being added each year.
