After previous hurricane events damaging their existing pier, H.E.B. utilized WGI’s professional services to provide the structural engineering design and construction documents for a new pier. Located in Rockport, Texas, the new pier was constructed on H.EB.’s 100+ acre Live Oak Point Park and extends into the Aransas Bay. The new pier is four feet wide by 875 feet long and is constructed from pressure-treated woodpiles, heavy timber framing, and Trex top railings to provide comfort and durability. The pier features a four-foot-wide by 28-foot T-shaped platform at the end of the structure with lower railing heights for ADA accessibility.

To aid in the design and construction of the new pier, WGI provided topographic and hydrographic surveys at the new pier’s location and upland around an existing one-story building. H.E.B. also utilized WGI’s landscape architecture team to provide landscaping plans and details around four of their existing buildings on the property.
