The sidewalk adjacent to the seawall at Red Reef Park had undergone settlement due to soil loss between the sheet panels and post-construction consolidation behind the seawall. The City of Boca Raton wanted the sidewalk removed and replaced. After the sidewalk was removed, provisions were made to address the soil loss and add new filter fabric behind the seawall. Additionally, the seawall had minor cracking and spalling along sections of the cap. WGI conducted a site visit to take general measurements of the seawall and sidewalk in sufficient detail to overlay the measurements on a rectified aerial photograph of the site. Using this information, WGI prepared a base map for construction repairs. Photo documentation of the deterioration of the seawall cap was made for restoration purposes. WGI utilized the map to prepare construction documents to remove and replace the sidewalk and restoration and rehabilitation of the seawall cap. During construction, WGI performed site visits and provided a final certification upon completion. The project was constructed in poor soils, which contributed to a significant portion of the soil loss. Proper consolidation and filter cloth installation were critical during the repair.
