In November of 2012, the East Coast of Florida was impacted by Tropical Storm Sandy. Although the storm did not hit the East coast of Florida, the associated storm surge caused devastating damage to the beaches and seawalls in the City of Manalapan. Thousands of feet of beach was lost during the peak of the storm surge. The extreme high tides and loss of beach were catastrophic to the 50-yearold existing seawalls in Manalapan.
WGI staff worked with a group of five homeowners to reconstruct their seawalls. Structural steel sheet piling with a new concrete pile cap was utilized to replace the existing failed walls and provide a new barrier for the existing homes and the ocean.
