At WGI, we recognize the importance of interfacing with our surrounding communities and investing in the next generation.
Each day, we strive to uphold our commitment to participate in the growth of our local communities; whether that be through designing a new parking structure, creating development plans, or attending a middle school career fair to inspire the next generation.
There are so many opportunities to make a positive impact on students looking to discover more about the world and their place in it. Some have big dreams, or they are following in the footsteps of family members. Some may grow up to be engineers, while others may not. No matter the reason, we are energized by students who are passionate about their pursuit of education, and we want to be a part of their journey!
Connecting Passion With Purpose
One of WGI’s Core Values is “Passion for People” and we believe in the difference people can make. WGI professionals engage their “Passion for People” daily by mentoring other staff members, collaborating to bridge gaps between beginner and expert, and embracing the impact that future generations will inevitably have on our industry. Our professionals also volunteer time working with students of all ages to spark enthusiasm for a career in engineering.
WGI’s Tronisha Vereen, EI, Kellyn Baron, Eliza Partington, and David John, PE were all in attendance to represent WGI at the Orange Park Junior High School’s Career Day Expo. Our enthusiastic professionals jumped at the opportunity to showcase WGI’s services and share their expertise with 343 eager 8th graders.
Our associates did an excellent job of exhibiting WGI’s range of services and providing a glimpse into a world they may have never noticed otherwise, the industry of engineering.
David John piqued the student’s interest with his bridge presentation that demonstrated the integration of “video game technology” utilizing Oculus that allowed students to view our designs as if they were standing on-site within the final product.
The students loved playing with the Oculus and really enjoyed receiving some WGI swag!
Continuing to Inspire
WGI is committed to inspiring the future generations of engineers and coming up next month we will be participating in Construction Career Days: an FDOT event that will host local high school students to provide a glimpse of WGI’s range of services. This event includes three full days and over 3000 students who will attend learning labs, visit career booths, and attend equipment demonstrations!
