The American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC-FL)’s Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) acknowledges Florida engineering firms for their ground-breaking applications and intricate projects.
WGI was recognized by ACEC-FL as a recipient of the Engineering Excellence Award of Honor in the category of “Special Projects” for the design and construction of the Pompano Beach, FL Fishing Pier.
The judges rated projects and studies on the basis of uniqueness and innovative applications; future value to the engineering profession; perception by the public; social, economic, and sustainable development considerations; complexity; and successful fulfillment of client/owners’ needs, including schedule and budget.
Amenities on the pier include four shade structures, electrical outlets for maintenance staff, freshwater hose bibs, a dry fire line for fire safety, and three fish gutting stations. The design also included lighting on the pier, which meets requirements for sea turtle friendly lighting, along with environmental education signs.
The new pier and tower are supported by concrete pile foundations with a concrete pile cap. The walking surface deck was constructed utilizing concrete beams with wood decking in between.
