WGI PROJECT

Juno Dunes Natural Area Boardwalk and Observation Tower

Client:
Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Resources Management
Location:
Palm Beach County, FL

Project Description

Palm Beach County is continuing the development of existing real estate into new county parks. Juno Dunes Park is located on the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway on the north side of Donald Ross Road. As a part of the development of this park, the County wanted to create a boat dock which would allow boaters to dock at the park and take the nature pathways around the undeveloped park to view existing wildlife and natural vegetation.

As a part of the improvements, WGI designed an 8-foot wide and 225-foot long wooden boardwalk, with 14-inch prestressed concrete piles, to connect the boat docks to the upland trails across the inland lagoon. Along the pathways, an elevated observation tower and information kiosks were constructed. WGI staff provided the structural design services for the wooden boardwalk and the observation tower. The structure utilizes concrete piles and pressure treated wood to create a strong durable facility for Palm Beach County residents to enjoy for many years.
