WGI was responsible for the preparation of roadway, signing and pavement markings, and signalization plans required to signalize two separate intersections on SW 216th Street (Hainlin Mill Drive) that access the entrance and exit ramps of the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike (HEFT) in Miami-Dade County. Specific improvements included full activation signalization, signal coordination, signing, and pedestrian signal features at both intersections. Improvements also included ADA-compliant curb ramps and pedestrian pavement markings. Multiagency coordination was completed with the Florida Department of Transportation, District 6, which previously completed a signal study at both intersections, and the Miami-Dade Public Works Department, the maintaining agency for the new signals.
Other efforts associated with the design included topographical survey, geotechnical investigations, utility coordination, a subsurface utility investigation to clear new signal pole foundations, and environmental permitting through the South Florida Water Management District.
