In partnership with the Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE), WGI led the widening of the Turnpike Mainline (SR-821) from six to ten lanes between SR-836 and NW 106th Street. The project introduced managed “Thru” lanes, reconstructed collector-distributor (C-D) roadways, and added direct connection flyover ramps at the SR-821/SR-836 interchange, significantly improving capacity, safety, and traffic flow along one of South Florida’s busiest transportation corridors.
WGI provided innovative engineering solutions to deliver this complex infrastructure project, utilizing advanced 3D modeling and digital delivery tools to streamline design, enhance constructability, and improve stakeholder coordination. The project included major roadway and bridge improvements, utility relocations, stormwater upgrades, and highway lighting enhancements, all while maintaining traffic operations throughout construction.
Completed 296 days ahead of schedule, the project enhances regional mobility, supports economic growth, and improves access to major destinations including Miami International Airport, the Port of Miami, and the Greater Miami Expressway.
