The pandemic-induced shift to hybrid work significantly reduced foot traffic in Denver’s Central Downtown District, affecting residents, retail, small businesses, public spaces, transportation, and public safety. With that being said, the decline in demand for office space has created quite a disruption to the city’s economy.

Mayor Johnston’s Plan

Denver’s Mayor, Mike Johnston, has recently unveiled a comprehensive plan and strategy to invest $500 million in downtown Denver.

Central to this plan is the expansion of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) beyond Union Station, with the DDA having already generated $400 million for the historic preservation of Union Station and surrounding infrastructure improvements.
