Presentations, awards, networking, and more! Here’s what happened at the 2021 FES | ACEC-FL Annual Conference in Palm Beach, FL.
The Intern Experience
For this edition of the “Intern Experience”, we check in on three of our interns who took advantage of some great opportunities to gain on-the-job experience!
Meet Nathaniel Auld, a Structural Engineering Intern in our West Palm Beach office. Nathaniel was recently on a site visit to the Ocean Reef Club “Ocean Room” in Key Largo where he observed and analyzed steel structural columns for cross-sectional integrity and overall quality. He also observed progress on additions to wooden trusses (some can be seen in the photo) on the roof.
“It was extraordinarily hot since we were doing work in the middle of the day with no air conditioner. It was like an oven in that building, I still had an incredible time!”
Meet Christian Ivey, a Structural Intern in our Jacksonville office. Christian is hard at work creating a rebar list for the I-10 widening project.
Meet Georgia Brooks, a Civil Intern in our West Palm Beach office. Georgia was on the sand dunes of Delray Beach with WGI’s Director, Environmental Services, John Abbott as they navigated and flagged sea grapes to identify recently planted native vegetation that needed to be protected during the removal process.
Have you recently graduated or are you looking to gain real-world experience before you graduate?
WGI is the right place for you. You can read more about our college internship opportunities and recruiting here.

Insulating The Building Envelope: Benefits In all Climate Zones — And a Point of Diminishing Returns
As energy costs continue to rise, and as energy performance continues to be a priority for both owners and tenants, efficiency is a competitive advantage.
WGI has been in overdrive for the first three quarters of 2019, exceeding 2018 in the expansion of its employees, services, clients, and geographic footprint.
WGI makes a very significant 41-spot jump from last year’s Hot Firm ranking of #76.
By letting engineers and contractors do what they do best, project owners reap the rewards.
Every year WGI’s Austin office takes a tour of some current & completed projects. What’s unique about this tour? It’s all done on bicycles! 🚲
