WGI Unleashed Podcast Episode 48 – Shad Shafie, VP, Buildings

In this episode, we got to chat with Shad Shafie, VP of the Buildings division based in our San Antonio, TX office. Shad drove to the Austin, TX office to record this episode of the podcast and offered up a riveting conversation.
Shad discussed his early life growing up in the Austin, TX area and his college experience at The University of Texas where he played football and studied Architectural Engineering. He also discussed moving to multiple cities around the country with his wife before having his two daughters. We also learned about Shad’s passion for photography, skydiving, 80s music, Las Vegas, and more!
At WGI, Shad leads a division that consists of Building Enclosures + Restoration, MEP Engineering, Structures + Parking, Specialty Structures, and Architecture. Shad joined WGI in 2020 with over 25 years of experience and a BS in Architectural Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He has a PE in several states including Florida and Texas, and has lived and worked most of his career in both states.

Shad Shafie
Shad has vast experience in structural engineering, project management, and operational management. As a senior structural engineer, Shad has been responsible for overseeing the structural design of a variety of projects using various construction techniques, including structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, precast and prestressed concrete, composites, masonry, and wood. Clients include aviation, Department of Defense, higher education, state agencies, county governments, industrial facilities, and religious facilities. Shad designs structures that are safe, economical, and easy to construct. His experience with various construction techniques, building materials, codes, and software enables him to provide efficient and responsive services.
