WGI Unleashed Podcast Episode 78, Edgar Segovia, Civil Project Manager
Welcome back to yet another episode of the WGI Unleashed Podcast!
Today, we’re diving into the remarkable journey of Edgar Segovia, a seasoned Civil Engineering Project Manager hailing from the vast landscapes of the Rio Grande Valley in the state of Texas. Buckle up as we unravel the unique story of Edgar’s life, from humble beginnings to becoming a mentor and leader at WGI.
Edgar’s roots trace back to the heart of nowhere – the rural landscapes of the Rio Grande Valley. And despite growing up under challenging circumstances, Edgar’s determination and resilience shone through, leading him to become the respected and experienced professional you see today.
With the belief that one is unable to fully grasp an idea without fully immersing oneself within it, Edgar’s journey began on the educational front at UT-Pan American, now known as UT Rio Grande Valley. It is here where Edgar pursued a degree in mechanical engineering. However, amidst his studies, it was around this time that Edgar also happened upon the love of his life through a series of intriguing circumstances you’ll have to hear to believe!
Upon graduation, Edgar was grateful to accept his first job opportunity with a Civil Engineering firm based in Laredo, TX, where he spent two years living with one of his best friends.
However, with a continued hunger for growth, Edgar sought out a firm and mentor with the experience, wisdom, and reliability to support him as he progressed in his career. After being introduced to WGI and having leveraged an ‘old school method’ to get his foot in the door, Edgar took a leap of faith in joining the firm that he is proud to call home today.
And as all things come full circle, after seeking a firm and mentor to help in his growth, Edgar now finds himself acting as a mentor for WGI, utilizing his knowledge and experience for the betterment of others. In his time at WGI, Edgar has spearheaded several mentorship initiatives, including “Speed Dating,” Lunch Coupons, The Summit, and ART, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth within his office.
Beyond his mentoring, Edgar’s passion extends to client relations, particularly in his work with the San Antonio Water System (SAWS). While others may spend their energy focused on design work, Edgar finds himself thriving while building meaningful connections and ensuring client satisfaction.
On a personal note, Episode 78 teaches us about Edgar’s softer side and life beyond the office! For example, as an avid animal lover, Edgar has become the proud parent of two rescue bunnies named Cosmo and Luna, only further proving that his heart is as big as his professional achievements.
And if you were to ask Edgar what the best things in life are, the answer would be simple: a mix of “Beer, BBQ, and Football” – Which is perfect considering he just recently acquired a brand new grill that he loves using to cook tacos al pastor, Mexican street corn, and much much more for friends and family alike!
