WGI’s 2025 Wrapped – Transportation

From growing our transportation teams to designing and inspecting critical infrastructure, 2025 was a year of momentum for WGI’s Transportation Division. Take a look back at the projects, people, and partnerships that shaped our impact.

In 2025, WGI’s Transportation Division delivered results that matter: projects that move people and freight more safely, infrastructure that strengthens communities, and partnerships that turn complex challenges into lasting solutions. Guided by WGI’s vision to creatively transform how our world is envisioned, designed, and experienced, our transportation professionals made meaningful progress across every mile and system we touched.

From expanding our technical teams and regional presence to designing and inspecting critical transportation assets, 2025 was a year defined by momentum, impact, and purpose.

Growing Our Team, Strengthening Our Reach

People are the foundation of everything we do, and in 2025, WGI’s Transportation Division continued investing in talent that drives innovation and excellence. A total of 14 transportation professionals joined WGI this year, each bringing specialized expertise, fresh perspectives, and a shared passion for meeting the evolving mobility needs of the communities we serve.

To further support this growth, we expanded our Raleigh, North Carolina office, increasing capacity and strengthening our ability to serve NCDOT, municipalities, and regional partners across the state. This expansion reflects WGI’s long-term commitment to North Carolina and positions our transportation teams to deliver complex projects with greater efficiency, responsiveness, and local insight.

Key transportation hires fueling this growth include:

  • Trent Huffman, Transportation Roadway Manager – A proven project management leader, Trent strengthens our ability to deliver roadway projects with precision, efficiency, and clarity.
  • Forrest Brooks, Hydraulics Engineer – With 11 years of experience in hydraulics and erosion control, Forrest enhances our technical depth and resilience-focused design capabilities in North Carolina.

Together, these additions reinforce our commitment to building transportation teams that are prepared to solve today’s challenges and tomorrow’s.

Designing Infrastructure That Keeps Communities Moving

From freight corridors to local roadways, WGI’s Transportation Division delivered solutions in 2025 that balance safety, capacity, constructability, and long-term performance.

Across Florida, our teams designed nearly 500 truck parking spaces, helping address a critical and growing need for the drivers who keep goods moving safely and efficiently throughout the state. These facilities support freight mobility, reduce unsafe roadside parking, and strengthen Florida’s supply chain infrastructure.

In addition, WGI transportation professionals designed more than 130 miles of highway, providing innovative, context-sensitive solutions that improve safety, expand capacity, and optimize mobility for motorists, freight operators, and surrounding communities. Each corridor was approached with a focus on performance, durability, and compatibility with its environment.

Our commitment to asset stewardship was further demonstrated in North Carolina, where we inspected 232 bridges statewide. These inspections delivered vital data that supports informed engineering decisions, prioritizes public safety, and extends the service life of critical transportation assets.

Each project reflects WGI’s disciplined transportation approach, matching solutions to context, integrating constructability early, and delivering infrastructure that performs on day one and endures for decades.

Investing in the Future Transportation Workforce

Our passion for transportation extends beyond today’s projects; it’s rooted in building the workforce of tomorrow. In 2025, WGI’s Transportation Division played an active role in developing and strengthening the industry’s talent pipeline.

WGI participated in 38 workforce development events, including career fairs, hiring events, and every FDOT Road to Your Future and Construction Career Days event held statewide. Through sponsorships, volunteerism, and direct engagement, our transportation professionals introduced students, job seekers, and career changers to the diverse and rewarding career paths available within the transportation industry.

This commitment translated directly into opportunity. Sixty-three interns joined WGI in 2025, gaining real-world experience, mentorship, and hands-on exposure to meaningful transportation projects. By learning alongside our experienced professionals, these interns began building the technical skills and professional confidence that will shape the future of transportation.

By investing in workforce development, WGI is not only growing our teams; we’re helping ensure the long-term strength, innovation, and resilience of the transportation industry.

Recognition That Reflects Our Commitment to Greatness

In 2025, our work and dedication were recognized with seven prestigious awards, underscoring our core value: Commit to Greatness.

Awards include:

  • DBIA-FL Merit Award – Clay County Bonded Transportation Program, Clay County, FL
  • DBIA-FL Merit Award – Cathedral Oak Parkway, Clay County, FL
  • DBIA-FL Merit Award – JTA Ultimate Urban Circulator, Bay Street Innovation Corridor, Jacksonville, FL
DBIA award
  • ACEC-FL Engineering Excellence Award (Honor Award) – SR 865 San Carlos Boulevard, Fort Myers Beach, FL

These honors reflect the technical excellence, collaboration, and care our teams bring to every project.

Measuring Success by Community Impact

While awards matter, the true measure of success is the difference our work makes in people’s lives.

Following completion of our San Carlos Boulevard project in Fort Myers Beach, we received a letter from a local resident that captured the heart of our mission:

“WGI’s engineers provided creative solutions to a seemingly impossible evolution – clear and smooth traffic onto Estero Island. The design should be highlighted and rewarded in Civil Engineering circles.”

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do, and why thoughtful, innovative transportation design matters.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, WGI’s Transportation Division remains focused on delivering infrastructure that is safe, resilient, and community-centered. With talented teams, trusted partnerships, and a shared commitment to excellence, we are ready to take on the next generation of mobility challenges.

Thank you to our clients, partners, and associates who made 2025 a year to remember. Together, we’re not just building roads and bridges; we’re shaping the future of transportation.
