At WGI, we are dedicated to advancing communities through innovative and inclusive mobility solutions.
Our recent project with the City of Lake Worth Beach exemplifies this commitment, as we worked closely with city leadership and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive Mobility Plan that addresses the community’s transportation needs while promoting safety, accessibility, and engagement.
In February of 2023, our experts embarked on the daunting task of developing a Mobility Plan for the City of Lake Worth Beach, a holistic initiative aimed at enhancing mobility infrastructure throughout the City. The project’s goal was simple – to improve alternative transportation methods including biking, walking, and transit options, while ensuring alignment with the city’s vision for a safer, more connected community.
From the outset, WGI’s approach was built on collaboration and engagement. We began by conducting individual interviews with key stakeholders, including the Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Commissioners, to define success metrics and prioritize community goals. This engagement was followed by extensive public outreach, starting with a successful event in April 2023 that drew nearly 50 attendees, including representation from Spanish and Creole-speaking communities. We prioritized inclusivity by offering multilingual materials and launched a project website that continues to provide updates in English, Spanish, and Creole.
A critical component of the Lake Worth Beach Mobility Plan is the High Injury Network (HIN) analysis.
WGI utilized crash data, traffic counts, and socioeconomic information to assess mobility safety across the city. This analysis, combined with an evaluation of zoning, land use, and community activity data, revealed key travel patterns and helped us refine project recommendations for enhanced pedestrian and bike infrastructure.
By integrating overlays using data sets from USDOT, USEPA, and HUD, we identified areas eligible for critical grant funding, ensuring that our plan was not only community-driven but also highlighted projects with the highest potential for securing safety-related state and federal funding.
Public engagement stands at the heart of WGI’s mobility planning.
In addition to formal meetings, we introduced interactive elements such as the “Walkshop” held in September 2023, where stakeholders provided on-the-ground feedback to further refine mobility solutions. Our commitment to accessibility extended to community events such as the Day of the Dead festival, where we educated residents about non-vehicular mobility options and gathered input on the HIN.
To complement these efforts, we developed online survey tools and made them accessible at key city locations, inviting residents to voice their preferences.
As we move into the next phase of the project, WGI will leverage community feedback and data insights to develop prioritized projects that improve biking, walking, and transit infrastructure. These projects will be evaluated based on their potential to address safety concerns, fill mobility gaps, and align with the city’s broader goals while meeting the requirements for state and federal grant funding.
At WGI, we believe that effective mobility planning empowers communities, fosters inclusivity, and ensures long-term sustainability – The Lake Worth Beach Mobility Plan is a testament to our commitment to creating vibrant, connected spaces where all residents can thrive.
Stay tuned as we continue working with the City of Lake Worth Beach to bring this exciting plan to life.
