Due to concerns regarding the worsening of existing concrete cracks observed along the bottom and the side of a post-tensioned (PT) beam, WGI was tasked with performing a limited structural analysis to determine if the PT beam was adequately designed to carry the current loading conditions safely, or if the PT beam required repair and structural strengthening.
The PT beam was situated below the service and loading dock areas of the Carillon office tower, which was frequently used by large delivery, garbage, and roll-off trucks to service the office tower.
After completing the structural analysis, WGI recommended epoxy injection of all cracks along the beam and surrounding areas. U-wrap the entire beam length with a carbon fiber wrap system to confine the beam and help redistribute the stresses more evenly.
