Through a Continuing Services Contract with the City of Delray Beach, WGI prepared the Marine Way Walkway Study (Phases 1 & 2) which culminated with the preparation of various design options for a proposed walkway/ sidewalk along the Marine Way right-of-way. This segment of walkway is the missing pedestrian link between the City Marina to the south and Veteran’s Park to the north. The study was performed in two phases, with the first phase being the “due-diligence” phase and the second phase consisting of the “design option” phase.
Phase 1 included the research of the limited right-of-way and access easements, finished floor elevations of the adjacent historical residential buildings, subsurface conditions, roadway conditions, utilities, drainage collection system, property ownership, riparian right investigations, the Intracoastal Waterway channel setbacks, and a seagrass and Submerged Aquatic Vegetation survey.
Phase 2 incorporated the information gathered in the first phase and included three separate engineering design options, including a description of the proposed improvements, preliminary engineering plans and cross sections, street lighting, seawall design, estimated construction costs and the advantages and disadvantages of implementing each option. Also included in this phase was the preparation of cost estimates, preliminary engineering plans and permitting and construction timelines.
