WGI was tasked with providing a topographic and hydrographic survey of the existing S-65E Drainage Control Structure and downstream waterway. The South Florida Water Management District’s engineers were concerned that the historically low water level of Lake Okeechobee was compromising the integrity of the drainage structure. Emergency funds were allocated for this study in addition to installing a relief structure downstream. Canal cross sections were taken at the existing structure to determine the shoaling effects. Additional cross sections were taken at the proposed structure location for design. When plans were completed, WGI was hired by American Bridge Company to perform the layout of the structure and prepare as-built surveys of above and below water critical components.
