WGI is providing several services for the City of San Antonio as a sub-consultant on this project. WGI’s project management and municipal experience created a valued partner for this exciting initiative to enhance the community’s connectivity and safety. The project proposes a 12-foot-wide shared-use path along the east side of Memorial Street (Culebra Road to Mayberry Avenue) to connect St. Mary’s University and Memorial High School to Apache Creek and the Zarzamora Creek Greenway, one of the largest parks in the area.
The traffic scope involves identifying and addressing various traffic-related safety concerns, queuing and circulation issues, evaluating the existing infrastructure, such as lack of signage, crosswalk placement, and providing recommendations for improvement to enhance pedestrian safety. By undertaking this study, WGI aims to create a safer environment for everyone associated with Memorial High School.
The landscape architecture team’s scope includes community engagement, developing green infrastructure details, street tree planting, and designing a trail node. The landscape architecture team will provide trees on both sides of the sidewalk for the share-use path. Underneath, WGI will implement silva cells, an innovative method of providing structural support to the sidewalk, and additional soil volume and space for tree roots to spread and grow. Furthermore, the silva cells will act as efficient water capture systems, channeling water from the street into the cells.
