In the dynamic field of urban planning, crafting spaces that foster community health, conservation, and resilience requires a blend of innovative thinking and strategic execution.

WGI has proudly taken the lead in updating the Comprehensive Plan for Greenacres, Florida, focusing on vital elements such as Conservation and Community Health – This project not only highlights our commitment to forward-thinking urban solutions but also underscores our ability to enhance community livability through meticulous planning and expert integration of technology.

Project Overview

In collaboration with the City of Greenacres, WGI undertook the significant task of amending the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

Greenacre Comprehensive Plan Amendments v1

Our approach was twofold: revising the Conservation Element and introducing an entirely new Community Health Element. These amendments were meticulously developed over several months, with the updated plans officially adopted in late 2023.

But we didn’t stop there… Our planners also crafted new templates for all of the City’s Comprehensive Plan elements as well as the data, inventory, and analysis, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing format that includes a unified style, layout, and font.  Our team developed graphic standards, established guidelines for tables and figures, and hand-selected unique symbols for each element, transforming complex data into clear and compelling visuals.

Enhancing Community Health

Recognizing the importance of holistic community wellness, WGI spearheaded the development of Greenacres’ first-ever Community Health Element. This new plan component focuses on crucial aspects such as access to recreation, healthcare services, and healthy food options. Our team conducted extensive data collection and analysis to identify both opportunities and barriers affecting the community’s social, physical, and mental well-being.

Through this rigorous analytical process, we crafted policies and objectives designed to foster environments that promote health and well-being for individuals and institutions alike. Our planners also utilized GIS technology to create detailed maps, enhancing the usability of our findings and making the data easily accessible for city staff and the community.

Advancing Conservation and Resilience

The Conservation Element of the Comprehensive Plan required a thorough evaluation of existing conditions and future needs concerning natural community preservation and resource protection. WGI’s expertise in environmental sustainability was pivotal in revising and sometimes wholly rewriting the analyses to integrate contemporary resilience planning and sustainable practices in government operations.

Our team’s dedication to sustainability is reflected in our strategic approach to updating the Conservation Element, ensuring that it not only protects but also enhances the area’s natural resources.

Collaboration and Process

The success of these amendments was made possible through consistent collaboration with city staff and the full consultant team. Regularly scheduled discussions and updates ensured that all stakeholders were aligned with the project goals and methodologies, which was crucial for the seamless integration of the amendments into the city’s broader planning framework.
