WGI prepared a feasibility study for the redesign of the City of Daytona’s Main Street Pier and Breakers Oceanfront Park, one of the area’s most iconic features. Our team started with an inventory and analysis of the existing conditions to determine the best approach to the new proposed conceptual design to be included in the study. The proposed design reprogrammed the park’s underutilized spaces by creating designated areas for different activities, including a playground for children, several seating areas throughout the park for people to relax and enjoy the scenery, and an open lawn area that can be used for special events and concerts. This space is designed to activate the space, accommodate large crowds, and be easily transformed for different events.
Several sustainable design elements were incorporated into the design to enhance the park’s appeal, such as rain gardens and permeable pavements, to manage storm water runoff and promote environmental sustainability. The goal was to create a multi-functional park that is aesthetically pleasing that serves as a vibrant community hub to foster social interaction, physical activity, and a sense of community pride. The park’s redesign greatly benefits the local community and encourages more people to use and enjoy the space.
