Under WGI’s Districtwide Landscape Architecture contract with the Florida Department of Transportation District 6 (FDOT), WGI was tasked with providing the landscape design for three miles of SR 5, US 1/Oversees Highway in Cudjoe Key, Florida. This encompasses the entire length of SR 5 in Cudjoe Key and acts as a gateway into the City of Key West. The landscape design included landscape improvements to the shoulders of SR 5, increased shade canopy for pedestrians and bicyclists on the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail, and landscape enhancements to the bridge approaches of the Key. The design included incorporating a “Keys Native” plant palette only. WGI provided the landscape design services as well as survey services for Project Network Control and traffic control design for mobilization of traffic.
