This project involves the all-electronic Tolling (AET) conversion of Florida’s Turnpike from I-595 to the south of the Lantana Mainline Toll Plaza, a distance of approximately 33 miles. Proposed improvements will require modification of the existing toll plazas at one mainline location and nine interchange ramp locations. The conversion to AET will modify the existing tolling scheme along the Turnpike Mainline project corridor, which utilizes a combination of ramp toll plazas and mainline barrier toll plazas and incorporate a “mainline gantry” configuration whereby the existing ramp toll plazas are removed, and mainline tolling points located between each interchange are constructed.
Existing geometric deficiencies will be corrected in these toll plaza sites’ vicinity to accommodate the higher operating conditions expected once AET is implemented. This project will also include operational improvements at the Commercial Boulevard, Sample Road and Glades Road interchanges, widening of the northbound Turnpike bridge over Glades Road, milling and resurfacing in all areas slated for improvement, signing and pavement markings, lighting modifications, landscaping enhancements, modifications at two administrative buildings, and ITS improvements necessary for AET operations.
