The IDEA Round Rock school’s two-story building’s initial phase footprint services kindergarten through second grade and sixth grade. Third grade will be added in the second phase. The school will continually add a new grade each year until it is a full-service, K-12 campus. WGI was responsible for civil engineering design, striping and signage design, traffic signal design, utility and drainage design, and regulatory permitting.
WGI also provided an overall project design consisting of water/ wastewater extensions to the site, drainage/detention components accounting for stormwater to/through the site, along with parking/access/ADA accessibility components throughout the site. Permitting through the City of Round Rock can pose challenges for schedules.
Through our solid relationships with City and County personnel, our team could resolve permitting issues in a time-efficient/effective manner. We worked with an adjacent developer to account for the required/needed wastewater connection at their site (within an existing easement) and permitting the wastewater component through the local municipal utility provider.
Our team also facilitated scheduling meetings with City personnel to allow for more expedient resolution to comments during the permitting process and the construction process with inspections. Our timely delivery of the site permit allowed construction to begin quickly and complete the project by the opening day of school.
