Michigan State University’s Grand River Parking Structure has drawn international attention for looking nothing like what it is. Great lengths were taken to ensure that the structure couldn’t be distinguished from other campus buildings. Highly detailed punched openings, traditional red brick cladding with stone trim and a continuous mansard roof that shields cars from view at the roof level are among the features that help the structure blend seamlessly with the historic character of the campus. Above-grade and underground parking levels minimize height and building massing.

• Aon Build America Award by the Associated General Contractors of America
• Cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete
• Improved pedestrian connection from Grand River Avenue to the heart of north campus
• Interior space includes storage, electrical room, elevator room, snow chute, three stair towers and two elevators
• Irregular chevron-shaped footprint
