WGI performed a condition assessment on the existing Ocean Reef Drive Bridge and identified the bridge as having substandard barrier walls. During the preparation of the bridge repair and barrier replacement plans, pedestrian bridge plans were prepared to provide ADA-compliant pedestrian access along the side of the existing bridge. The new bridge section will allow for a separation between the existing golf cart and road traffic allowing for safer pedestrian access across the bridge. WGI’s design included an independent auger cast concrete pile substructure with a prestressed concrete bridge deck. The existing substandard bridge barriers will be replaced with decorative planters and pedestrian railings located behind crash-rated barrier walls.
