The Port Everglades Power Plant was upgraded to replace the existing generator systems with more efficient systems. As part of the overall plant revitalization, WGI’s Structures Systems Division provided a structural evaluation, condition   assessment prepared, modification plans, and preformed inspections to the existing intake structure which fed the entire power plant with cooling water for the generators.

Based on WGI’s recommendations, the intake structure was rehabilitated safely in phases requiring minimal disruption to other facilities being replaced. WGI’s tasks included providing a modified structure to support the new intake pumps and debris racks and enhancing the intake walls to provide long-term corrosion resistance.
