The Village’s desired aesthetic look for the bridge necessitated that unique design features be incorporated into the arched spandrel panels and tiered retaining/cseawall along the bridge’s approach spans. These unique design features required  coordination between the Engineer, contractor, and CEI firm to facilitate the bridge construction. During the pre-construction survey for the bridge, Johnson seagrass was detected in the vicinity of the bridge’s abutment.
This presence required acdesign modification to the bridge’s substructure. The construction of the large precast arched spandrel panels required extensive coordination between the Engineer, contractor, and CEI to review reinforcement and embedment plant installation and to review the precasting procedure, including lifting and transportation impacts on the panels.
Due to changes in the bridge funding and the Village’s scheduling for the bridge construction, the design of the bridge was completed multiple times under differing design requirements. Proposed permit regulations, material restrictions, and allowable construction sequencing were altered from the beginning bridge design to the bridge’s final start.
