WGI’s Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) was contracted to capture imagery using our FireFly Pro 6 RTK UAS for an ongoing Army Corps restoration project. The UAS imagery is used to produce Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) to track progress and verify earthwork quantities. WGI’s UAS Team provided acquisition services for areas E,F,G,H, and I. Each area is approximately two miles in length and varies in width. Some of these areas require multiple missions as the earthwork occurs over several months.
Coordinating with LandTech Consultants and stakeholders on site, WGI’s UAS Team is tasked with determining the proper amount of control and check points required to satisfy mission requirements. Once these are determined, the Team will build multiple mission plans to cover the entire project site. Control is then established (and targets, if necessary), prior to the UAS Team’s arrival. Typically, each area is acquired in a single day.
Post-processing and a quality check of the RTK data from the UAS is completed by processing out a surface and comparing this to the check points provided. Once the imagery meets project requirements, it is forwarded on for further processing and the creation of deliverables.
