The Riverbend Commons project, also known as the south mall revitalization, was intended to improve student life at the University of Minnesota. Plans included a complete renovation of Coffman Memorial Union and a 1,920-space underground parking structure with a 424-bed student housing development above it. The project also included traffic/public space improvements and improved access to the Mississippi River.
• The parking structure was built into the side of a steep slope with entrances and exits on three different levels.
• A parking and revenue control system included magnetic stripe technology, credit card access, pay-on-foot provisions, and conventional cashiering options.
