The Vietnam Memorial monument, located in the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Lansing, is a tribute to the 2,651 Michigan men and women who died during the Vietnam War. The memorial is a 120-foot-long graceful steel arc that is suspended three feet above the ground.
The concrete plaza adjacent to the Memorial Park was deteriorated due to snowplow damage and deicing salts. The bronze strips embedded in the concrete were coming loose and causing trip hazards.
The concrete was removed and replaced with a high-quality concrete mix design. New bronze strips with improved anchors were embedded in the concrete. Small joints with sealants were installed along each bronze strip to allow thermal movement.
