Bypassing Interstate 4 and connecting Lake County to Seminole County, the Wekiva Parkway Section 6 project has garnered significant recognition since its completion, receiving six prestigious awards for its outstanding engineering, construction, and environmental conservation efforts. With a focus on safety, environmental stewardship, and wildlife-friendly bridge connectivity, this one-of-a-kind project has become the new benchmark for innovative infrastructure development.
Wekiva Parkway Section 6 includes a four-lane toll road, a parallel service road, a multi-use trail, electronic tolling gantries, and the remarkable Wekiva River Crossing. The centerpiece of this project comprises three segmental bridges spanning 6,000 feet, carrying both the Wekiva Parkway and a shared-use path.
The project also prioritizes environmental conservation with nine wildlife bridges facilitating safe animal passage between the Seminole State Forest and Rock Springs Run State Reserve, with a total of 18 bridges, including the iconic Wekiva River Crossing, seamlessly blend with the natural surroundings, and demonstrating a dedicated commitment to wildlife preservation.
Displaying ingenuity, the design-build team implemented thirteen alternative technical concepts, streamlining construction processes. This innovative approach minimizes traffic disruptions, reduces environmental impacts, and enhances overall safety.
