Palm Beach County entered into an Agreement with FDOT to widen Okeechobee Boulevard over Florida’s Turnpike. WGI was selected for this widening project based on our unique approach of reconfiguring the existing bridge superstructure to eliminate the existing sidewalks that created enough width to add one additional lane in the east and westbound direction of the existing bridge.
Two new pedestrian bridges were added on the bridge’s north and south sides to accommodate pedestrians traveling over the Turnpike. The pedestrian bridge configuration on the north side was skewed to avoid existing underground utilities and minimize the traffic disruption on the Turnpike.
WGI’s unique skills and innovative ideas were utilized for the project to minimize traffic conflicts and disruption of traffic for a reduced construction schedule and a safer job site.
